The baby boomer generation (1946 to 1964) is by far one of the largest generations in the US. They account for more than half of the consumer shopping in the US. More and more businesses have begun to take advantage of this large market and create services that specifically cater to the boomer generation. If you are looking to provide services for baby boomers, there are some things you might want to consider first. Brainstorming is the best way to ensure you are creating services that are really needed in your community.
Brainstorm a Few Ideas
The first thing to providing much needed services to baby boomers is to generate a few ideas. Boomers could use a lot of services, however, you likely don’t want to take on more than you can handle. You can brainstorm by asking boomers in your immediate neighborhood what types of services they need most. Most will need retirement planning services, health and nutrition services, and banking services. Once you’ve come up with a few ideas, you need to narrow it down to what you believe you can best offer them.
Creating a Business Plan
The next order of business is to create a business plan that will show others what you’re trying to do. Your plan needs to appeal to potential investors so that they can see your vision and hopefully be willing to invest. Questions you might consider asking are: how many boomers are in a 10 mile radius of your location? How many of the boomers are interested in your services? What is the need for your services? How many companies within a 10 mile radius already offer those services?
Get the Word Out
After creating a business plan and gathering your ideas, you should begin getting the word out there. There are plenty of ways you can go about advertising your services for boomers including: online marketing, flyers, door to door, word of mouth, and much more. The more people you can reach out to in your area, the better it is for business.
Provide the Best Services
Once the word begins to spread you’re going to have an influx of boomers looking for your services. From here, it will be up to you on if they will return for services again. If they are able to receive kind and effective services, they are going to come back and probably tell a friend or two. If you don’t do such a good job, your services will no longer be required.
Providing much needed services to baby boomers does require a bit of legwork and research. However, if there is a major need in your community and you feel you have the ability to fill it, you could end up creating a very profitable service. Keep in mind when selecting the type of business you will run that boomers are looking for services that will help them excel and live a more comfortable life. If you can master helping them do this, your clientele will go through the roof.
